Okuklje, Mljet

July 15 & 16

After our second swim stop of the day, we doubled back along the island of Mljet to park for the night in the village Okuklje. I think Okuklje was one of my favorite places we stopped in! According to Google, the population is 31 (I'm not sure if I believe that). By the time we arrived, I was starting to get cabin fever from being on the boat and was ready to walk around and explore, but we needed some food and it was getting close to dark.

Instead, we walked down the harbor and found a restaurant that served pizza. After almost a week of traditional-style food, we were ready for some pizza! They had a kebab on the menu, so I asked the waiter for that. He told me that the translation of "kebab" was not right, and described the dish instead as "meat cylinders." Is it good?, I asked. He said yes, so I ordered it! It turned out to basically be hamburger sausages, which were really good. The rest of the girls shared their pizza with me too, which had some great CRUST!!

Very nice cat

After dinner, we went back to the boat to have a small boat party. We planned to play Oh Hell, but I forgot to bring the decks of cards I'd promised I'd packed. Classic Laura, sorry! Instead, we played a couple of other games before the rest of the crew came back from dinner and joined us for drinks. We stayed up way too late talking, but it was a really fun night! A highlight was a very brave and friendly cat walking across the plank to board the boat and joining our party for a while.

Marta planned a sunrise yoga session the next morning up the hill/mountain at a church we'd spotted, but because I'd gone to bed only two hours before, I did not attend. Instead, Sid and I got up a couple hours before we set sail and went exploring ourselves. We found a little spider-ridden trail to a small beach area, then HIKED up the mountain to the church. It was quite an incline, but the view was so worth it! Definitely one of the highlights of my whole trip.

After our hike, we had a quick breakfast and were off to our last stop on the sail, Dubrovnik, to celebrate Hannah's 26th birthday!!!!!!
