Pomena, Mljet

July 14 & 15

We spent the next two days and nights on the island Mljet. The first night was in Pomena, which is a small fishing village right outside a national park. The park has two lakes that were close to the village, so we set off to check the park out when we arrived. We decided to rent some bikes, but we didn't get them until 6 and the bike rental place closed at 7. Despite the bike guy telling us we'd have time to make the four kilometer trip around the lakes, we barely made it to the lake at all before we needed to head back :)

The lake we saw looked beautiful! We had time (or made time) to jump in for a quick swim, but then we had to speed back home to return our bikes. I wish we would've had more time to explore the park, but I guess I'll just have to go back.

Us with Stipe (Stiebert), the skipper of the third boat, Game Point.

When we got back to the boat for a beautiful sunset that got better every minute, we had dinner at the restaurant just in front of where we docked. We also celebrated Jess's 41st birthday, which was a redo of her 40th since it was during the pandemic. I ordered scampi for supper, which I was pretty nervous about because the waitress told me they would be in their shells and I'd have to crack them open. However, they were AMAZING! I think they definitely made my Top Five Meals Ever list. At the end of the meal they served us a complimentary digestive, which brought back memories of Bulgaria's rakia. I enjoyed it, but I don't think Sidney did. :)

After dinner, we took a quick walk around the village, which was really small. According to Google, the population is 52! We saw a fisherman who caught an octopus, which was cool but also sad. Then we were off to bed!

The next morning was yoga, then a quick pancake breakfast before setting sail for a couple of swim spots around Mljet. Of course, the sailing was a race again, but I don't think we won so we didn't hear much about the race afterward. :) After some swim time, we arrived at our next village on Mljet — Okuklje!
